In L.A. (and perhaps elsewhere around our country), people who are vaccinated receive a certification card at the vaccination site. Now that The Wife and I are vaccinated, we have filed the original records with our important papers, e.g., passports, birth certificates, etc. We also laminated photos of these certificates that we are carrying in our wallets with our “real ID” drivers licenses. Will these become necessary to travel, fly, gain access to various venues, e.g., concerts, movie theaters, grocery markets, hospitals? Are they invasions of privacy, constitutional rights, discriminatory, etc.? What form must they take to be “forgery proof”? Is proof of vaccination really relevant, i.e., does vaccination mean you can’t transmit the disease (not yet studied, let alone established), for how long?
And as you may or may not know, I’ve got a bone or two to pick with Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg over some issues that came up during the launch of JK’S CODE. When I think of what could potentially happen to our data if Facebook were to develop a vaccine app and everyone got on-board? It doesn’t fill me with much confidence… and I am not alone in that thought:
“Some worry that the apps could be a distraction from public health priorities or, worse, compromise privacy or create two classes of people.
‘This is something that’s being driven by the greed of tech corporations, not the actual public health guidance,’ said Albert Fox Cahn, executive director of the Surveillance Technology Oversight Project, a digital privacy group in New York.”
