Penman1For those of you who’ve been asking (someone has been asking, right?) for a progress report on the status of my latest novel, 28: The Missing Amendment, here’s the executive summary:

The novel is finished, written, rewritten, and rewritten again—that’s just how the process works. Think I’m not attached to my writing? Just take another look at the image accompanying this status report. A closer look. Closer. True “story.” That’s how attached I am to my writing! Joined at the hand, if not the hip.

Now comes the “easy” part, trying to find an agent to sell the book to a traditional publishing house. Time will tell, but this is generally an uphill grind for an unbranded, unconnected writer. Stay tuned for (hopefully) more on this . . . epic journey!

In the meanwhile, for those of you who haven’t memorized the story premise (quiz at 11):

As the Supreme Court commences an expedited one-week determination of a Congressional challenge to a Constitutional amendment criminalizing political corruption, the swing vote justice receives a text concerning his 11-year-old diabetic granddaughter from those who would control the case which begins: “We have your granddaughter. Here’s what you need to do. . . .”

Advance copies of the manuscript are now being read with a critical eye by some in the industry. Here’s what one bestselling author graciously had to say after kicking the tires and taking the manuscript for a test drive, from cover to cover:

28: The Missing Amendment is a high concept, hybrid blend of a political, legal, psychological and action thriller all rolled into a smooth, savory, and suspenseful mix.  Ron Barak manages to channel the best of John Grisham, David Baldacci and even Steve Berry in this amazingly timely tale cast with a Supreme Court backdrop.  As prescient as it is thought-provoking and as much fun as it is factual, this is reading entertainment of the highest order. I’d be shocked if this book doesn’t become a bestseller.“–Jon Land, USA Today bestselling author of Strong Light of Day

So, there you have it, the . . . status . . . of 28: The Missing Amendment. And thanks to the . . . status . . . of the high caliber politicians running our country today, and seeking to run it tomorrow, or at least beginning next year, 28: The Missing Amendment should be timely and thought-provoking for some years to come!
