Most websites have a button or link called “About [something or other].” If you clicked on “My About,” here you go:
My name’s Ron Barak. My wife is Barbie. Our kids are Jennifer and Mark. Our grandkids are Quinn, Madison, Oliver and Peyton. I’m a long time, full time lawyer. I’m now also a full time writer. I’m a full time golfer too (in my dreams). I forgot; I also like to read in my spare time—people as well as books!
There I was, a little over a year ago, reader of books, pondering the idea of…writing one. A “novel.” I had a title in mind (and I used it), an idea for a story and its ending (that I also used), and…nothing else. No literature or creative writing classes. Just a gymnast who had traveled around the world, representing the U.S. in international competitions, who also had obtained a physics degree in college along the way and then gone on to law school to put off the inevitable for a few more years—having to find…a job.
So, one law career and one law practice later, I just started writing. No, it wasn’t a dark and stormy night. No shot rang out in the dark—at least not for a few pages! What happened next was…what, did you think I was going to give the whole book away here? But, nine months later, behold, “a season for redemption.”
As for my writing style, I’ve been described by some as a cross between an Agatha Christie “whodunnit,” a John Grisham “page turner” a Ray Romano self-deprecating “humorist.” Hmm, maybe it’s just that I’d like someone to describe me that way:-)
Okay, so now I’ve written my…debut novel. (And my second is underway. Don’t stray too far!) But how did I get anyone to…notice? And buy? And read? I’m not sure I fully understand that just yet. I’m just grateful that it’s happening!
I hope you’ll navigate and meander around this website and MY Other Stuff, and find something there for YOU. Please give a season for redemption a try, and enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Be sure to check out the free sample of the book. Another link will lead you to a season for redemption in its entirety–whenever you’re ready. Oh yeah, and keep at least one eye peeled for that stranger coming up just behind you!
